SHARE THE DRUM

Asheville Percussion Festival 2018 was held Monday June 25-Sunday July 1, in beautiful Asheville, NC.

Engage in a world of rhythm. Come enjoy a creative environment where percussionists, dancers, and music lovers of all traditions, gather to explore, create and innovate. The festival was hosted by Asheville's ambassador to rhythm, River Guerguerian.

This year's theme, Celebrating Women in Rhythm, will honor powerful female artists whom we will bring to Asheville from around the globe. Our Residency Artists will collaborate and create original compositions during the week. They will also help teach a week-long intensive program, give workshops/demonstrations on Saturday for the public, perform a Masters Concert on Friday evening, an informal evening of Solo Performances and Jams on Saturday evening, and facilitate a sound meditation on Sunday.

The Intensive Program, Workshops, informal Solo Performances, and Sound Meditation will be held at the Odyssey Community School, 90 Zillicoa St., Asheville, NC, 28801.

Monday June 25-Sunday July 1
The Intensive Program will include 2 tracks: World Percussion for Emerging Drummers and World Percussion for Intermediate/Advanced Drummers. Both tickets include 5 hours of classes per day Monday, June 25 - Thursday, June 28, and 3 hours of classes on Friday, June 29. An Intermediate/Advanced Ticket will also include an hour of rehearsal per day with the Teaching Artists and performing in a group piece at the Friday evening and Saturday evening concerts. Throughout the week, there will be an open Collaboration Room for participants to get together, jam, and share ideas. Intensive Program tickets include admission to the Friday & Saturday evening concerts and Sunday morning Sound Meditation.

Wednesday June 27
Bonnie Whiting performance:
 Black Mountain College Museum + Arts Center 
TICKETS ARE NOW AVAILABLE ON-LINE for this intimate concert at Black Mountain College Museum + Arts Center on Weds, June 27th, at 8pm.  APF Residency Artist, Bonnie Whiting, will present her solo simultaneous performance of two vintage John Cage compositions. If you are an experimental jazz fan, you won't want to miss this exciting performance!

Friday June 29
The Friday evening Masters Concert will take place at 8 p.m. on June 29 at the Diana Wortham Theatre in downtown Asheville, 12 Biltmore Avenue, Asheville, NC 28801. The concert will feature original collaborative compositions created during the residency week by our world-renowned Residency Artists. A separate ticket is required. Please note that the Masters Concert is on a Friday night this year and not Saturday night like in previous years.

Saturday June 30
All Workshops and activities are free on Saturday, June 30, from 10am-6pm at Odyssey Community SchoolPlease register for a Free Workshop Ticket. This ticket does not include the Saturday Night Solo Performances, or the Sound Meditation on Sunday. Topics taught by our world-renowned artists include rhythms from around the world, technique, performance tips, and dancing.

An evening of informal Solo Performances and Jams by our world-renowned Residency Artists and guests will be Saturday June 30, at 8:00pm at the Odyssey Community School. A separate ticket is required.

Sunday July 1
The Sunday Sound Meditation will take place at noon on July 1 at Odyssey Community School. A separate ticket is required.

Monday July 2- Wednesday July 4
This year we will have an extra two day event led by Raquy Danziger from Turkey. 2 Days of Doumbek Focus All Day Workshop on Monday and Tuesday July 2-3, from 10am-4:30pm (1:00-2:30pm Lunch Break). She will also be offering private lessons on Weds July 4. Please email ashevillepercussion@gmail.com to inquire.

Other activities and amenities will include a silent auction, vending, demonstrations, a food truck and ice cream.

Hello Percussionists & Rhythm Lovers,

           We are excited that you have chosen to attend Asheville Percussion Festival 2018! Our world-class faculty creates a unique and inspiring musical experience for everyone involved. The mission of Asheville Percussion is to provide a creative environment where percussionists of all traditions gather to explore, create and innovate.
All Workshops on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday will be held at Odyssey Community School (90 Zillicoa St, Asheville, NC 28801)

CONCERT GOERS:
The Friday evening Masters Concert will take place at 8 p.m. at the Diana Wortham Theatre (12 Biltmore Ave, Asheville, NC 28801) in downtown Asheville. The concert will feature collaborative compositions from our world-renowned teaching artists. Please allow extra time to park.

WHAT YOU WILL NEED TO BRING:
-     Please bring your own instruments. If you would like to borrow one please let us know. ashevillepercussion@gmail.com
      (limited number of Congas, Djembes, Frame Drums and Doumbeks available)
-    Writing utensil and/or personal recording device for classes and jam sessions, bottled water/drink, snacks (some will be available),        and yoga mat for sound meditation if you wish to lie down. There will also be chairs.
-    A joyful willingness to share and learn about the wonderful world of Percussion!

VENDING:
There will be vending stations that will feature products from local and national drum makers including Cooperman Frame Drums, Carolina Drumworks Snare Drums, Meinl Percussion, Skinny Beats Drum Shop, Hands on Fire Tank Drums, McLellan Djembes, BRR Cajons. See list below.

DRUM SWAP:
During the Intensive, there will be a booth set up, where you may swap ANY unwanted drum gear for something that you may need. This booth is created by festival goers, for festival goers.

SILENT AUCTION:
We will have musical instruments, artwork, and beautiful crafts donated by our generous sponsors. See list below.

FOOD:
There will be a Food truck on site on Saturday, Nibble & Sip snacks and a HOP ice cream stand.

TRAVEL & ACCOMMODATIONS:
If you are flying into the Asheville-Hendersonville regional airport, downtown Asheville is 20 minutes away. Greenville/Spartanburg, SC (GSP) is a 75 minute drive. Charlotte NC (CLT) is a 2 hour drive.
